Hoi An Memories Show isn’t your average street performance. The stage alone covers 25,000 square meters – so forget any ideas of a small local theater. This is a massive production, featuring over 500 actors and dancers. And for just over an hour, you’ll be taken on a journey through 400 years of Hoi An’s history, all from the comfort of your seat.

The show walks you through the major milestones of Hoi An, back when it was a key trading port in the 16th and 17th centuries. It’s dynamic, well-executed, and gives you a sense of how Hoi An became a cultural crossroads on the famous Silk Road. You don’t need to be a history buff to enjoy it.

The Hoi An Memories Show Stage
Overall, the show tells the story of Hoi An’s transformation from a quiet 16th century farming village into a vibrant and internationally important trading port, brought to life through synchronized dance, music, and light. And without any dialogue!
- Chapter 1 – Life: Describes Hoi An’s beginnings some 3000 years ago. Constructing an accurate, colorful depiction of the past, its people, and the region of Hoi An. In addition, pictures show a young couple beaming with joy, the boys toiling away at building houses and fishing, etc.

- Chapter 2 – Wedding: Man Dam (King of Champa) and Princess Huyen Tran’s wedding. Restored upon Princess Huyen Tran’s marriage to Champa King Che Man. Who had received Chau O And Chau Ly in return for the Dai Viet nation. In magnificent and opulent costumes, hundreds of players portray Cham troops who engage in lively dances to greet the bride.

- Chapter 3 – Lights and Sea: Tells the tale of a girl who is in love with a merchant sailor who is frequently distant from home. Expressing the longing of both onshore people and mariners.

- Chapter 4 – Intergration: Captures the lively, busy vibe of one of Southeast Asia’s largest international trade ports for viewers

- Chapter 5 – Ao Dai: The sight of girls riding bicycles through the old town’s narrow streets seems to transport the audience to a more contemporary era, to a quieter but no less vibrant Hoi An that is modern in this place’s particular way-calm, gentle, and sophisticated.

Again, the Hoi An Memories Show has no spoken lines or narration, so you shouldn’t expect storytelling in that sense. Instead, the performance uses choreography and music to portray the city’s history. It’s visual storytelling at its best! And truly, there are really powerful scenes.

There are various pre shows. We watched a few, pretty good. There are interesting grounds to walk. The show is excellent. Particularly the wedding scene. No problem getting a grab after the show.

This is an outdoor show on a huge stage. Something you cannot miss if you visit Hoi An. We arrived around 18h30 so we could catch some of the mini shows on the resort prior to the main show. The show is grandiose, very lively and an experience to remember.
