Situated at the top of its namesake mountain pass located at the geographical boundary between Da Nang and Thua Thien-Hue Province, the Hai Van Gate literally means ‘ocean cloud gate,’ referring to the mists that sometimes rise from the sea and reduce visibility.
The gate had at one point been left to fall into disrepair, but nowadays, it has emerged as one of the must-see places in the city.
In addition to a scenic and zigzagging road which is considered as a challenge for motorbike drivers, plus breathtaking views, the Hai Van Gate boasts a beautiful pine hill on its top. The pine hill is famous for its cool climate, and it is commonly referred to as a miniature Da Lat in the city.
In order to reach this site, you can ride their motorbikes on uphill path nearby the Hai Van Gate. According to motorbike adventurers, this road is about 2 km in length, so they have to use motorbike with powerful engines to move uphill smoothly.
