Da Nang is located in the tropical climate and monsoon region with high temperatures but less variability. The city has two seasons every year. The wet period is from September until March, while the dry period is between April and August.

Average temperatures can go as low as 18°C and as high as 31°C. Rainfall usually comes in short bursts, so carry an umbrella with you during this time of the year. Da Nang weather has a history of floods caused by typhoons, but they are rare occurrences. April sees a transition to Da Nang’s dry season. The city experiences scorching tropical heat and high humidity levels in August. Between May and September, the highest average temperature is at 35°C. January is one of the “coldest” months in a year with temperature ranging from 19 to 24 degree Celsius. Though the number of rainy days is quite high (10 days), the precipitation (100 mm) which is only half of what it was in the previous month, makes the weather is generally better in January then in December. However, temperature of water which drops to its lowest level of the year at 22 degree Celsius makes January not a good time to swim and join in other water sports in this coastal city. One should put on long clothes and even a light coat (at night) in the “coldest” month.

The coastal city sees a slight temperature increase and remarkable rainfall decline in February. Temperature ranging from 20 to 25 degree Celsius and small amount of rainfall (precipitation of 100 mm, three wet days) bring about mild weather this month. Though the sea temperature of 23 degree Celsius is quite good, swimming is not the best activity for you in this kind of cool weather.

Coming to Da Nang in the first half of this month, you have a big chance to enjoy Tet holiday with the locals. While the amount of rainfall in March experiences no change compared to the previous month, temperature rises by almost 10%, and reaches 22 to 27 degree Celsius. Temperature of sea water experiences the same increase, and reaches 25 degree Celsius which is ideal for swimming at beaches. However, it would be much better if you wait until April or May to visit the coastal city to enjoy cool sea water in hot summer days.

It is rather hot in Da Nang in May, when temperature fluctuates between 25 and 31 degree Celsius (increase by 10% compared to April). July shares the same temperature level with June (26 – 32 degree Celsius). However, larger amount of rainfall (eight wet days, precipitation of 90 mm) makes July a little bit cooler than the previous month. Temperature just decreases slightly in September (1 degree Celsius lower then it in August), and ranges from 25 to 31 degree Celsius. However, the precipitation soars up to 300 mm (three times larger than it in previous month), and number of wet days is estimated at 13 days (1.5 times more than the average in August). However, heavy rains and occasional storms make the weather get colder than it should be, and transportation delay due to flooding in some cases. The rainfall amount in Da Nang reaches it’s highest level within a year with precipitation of 550 mm, and 16 wet days during the month. Since it is rather cold and rainy for most of the time, one should put on warm clothes, bring along raincoat and rain boots these days.

Bad weather does not let you out, but Da Nang offers you a number of indoor places to visit on wet and rainy days. October, the rainiest and wettest month of the year may not a good time to visit the coastal city.

In November

Though the rainfall amount decreases significantly in November, it is still one of the wettest months of the year. Heavy rains and occasional storms continue to prevent you from a number of outdoor activities these days.

November is slightly colder than October, with temperature measured at 24 degree Celsius, plus or minus two. Though temperature is quite pleasant, heavy rains and tropical storms make the weather get colder, streets get muddy and somehow annoy tourists. It is the second wettest month of the year with precipitation of 330 mm, and 13 wet days. Remember to put on warm clothes, take raincoat along and spend less time outdoor in the wet and rather cold winter.

Enjoying fresh and hot local food in wet and cold winter days is really great. You can try some specialties like “Bánh xèo” (Rice pancakes), “Bánh tráng cuốn thịt heo” (pork wrapped cake), “Mỳ Quảng” (Quang Noodle) at branded restaurants in the downtown or at sidewalk food stalls. Unpleasant weather makes November not a good time to visit Da Nang city. It would be better if you wait until the next month, when the weather gets drier to visit the city and enjoy festive atmosphere with the locals.
